Get an instant valuation

What do you need to sell your car?

• A valid photo driving licence
• A valid V5C that matches your name, address and the number plates
• Evidence of your car's service history
• Handbook
• Any accessories that came with the car, such as locking wheel nuts, radio and key codes
• Sat nav discs
• MOT (if applicable)
• Spare keys

If you have outstanding finance, you can only Part Exchange, rather than sell your car directly to Carsa. If you are part exchanging you will need a letter from the finance company confirming their settlement figure.

Got finance left to pay?

No problem, many of our customers do. If your car’s still on PCP or HP finance, we’ll help you work out what’s left to pay and how part exchange fits in.

Please note: we can only accept vehicles with outstanding finance as part of a part-exchange when you are also buying a car from us.

Get a settlement figure

Contact your lender to find out the exact amount needed to clear your finance.

Value vs settlement

If your car’s worth more than what you owe, the difference can go towards your next car.
If it’s worth less, you can pay the shortfall or add it to your new finance deal, your call.

We handle the admin

We’ll settle the outstanding finance for you directly and make sure the handover is smooth and simple.

FAQs

Do I need to tell the DVLA after I part exchange?

Yes, once you hand over your car, it's your responsibility to inform the DVLA. You can do this online or by sending them the yellow slip (V5C/3) from your logbook.

Do I need to bring my car to a Carsa store?

If you're collecting your new car in person, yes, bring your part exchange with you. If you're having your new car delivered, we'll arrange to collect your old one when we drop off the new one.

What if my car has a private plate?

If you want to keep it, you'll need to put it on retention with the DVLA before handover. If not, we can leave it on the car, just let us know your preference and we'll handle the rest. You can remove your private plate here: https://www.gov.uk/personalised-vehicle-registration-numbers/take-private-number-off

Can I part exchange a car that's not in my name?

Yes, that's fine, as long as there's no outstanding finance. The person named on the V5C just needs to be present at handover and sign a quick consent form.

Can I part exchange if my car's on finance?

Yes, you can. We'll help you settle any remaining finance using the value of your current car. If your car's worth more than what you owe, the leftover amount goes towards your next one. If it's worth less, you can just pay the difference upfront.

Can I put my part exchange value towards a finance deal?

Definitely. Once we've valued your car, that amount can be used as a deposit towards your new finance plan with us, it's all taken care of automatically.

Can I part exchange more than one car?

Yes, you can! We're happy to accept multiple part exchange vehicles, you can use them all towards your next car purchase with us.

What do I need to part exchange?

To make the handover smooth, just bring your V5C logbook, MOT certificate, service history (if you've got it), any spare keys, and a settlement letter if your car's on finance.
