2025 told a clear story: electric has gone fully mainstream among used car buyers. For the first time, a Tesla topped our annual countdown — and two Teslas made the top 10. Premium hatchbacks held firm, a new electric SUV entered the top five, and an iconic Land Rover model made its first appearance in our chart.

Here's our official countdown of Carsa's 10 best-selling cars from January to December 2025 — the models our customers actually chose, ranked from 10 down to number 1.

#6
🆕 New entry
Hyundai Tucson
Hyundai
Tucson

The highest new entry of 2025. Bold looks, digital-first interior, and PHEV variants that slash running costs for shorter commutes.

#10 — Tesla Model Y

The Tesla Model Y breaks into our top 10 for the first time in 2025 — and its entry at number 10 understates just how rapidly it's grown in popularity. The Model Y is Tesla's SUV, built on the same platform as the Model 3 but with a taller, more practical body offering a proper boot, higher driving position, and room for five in genuine comfort. Real-world range of 260–320 miles depending on variant, and the same over-the-air software updates that keep the car current long after purchase. With the refreshed Highland version now arriving in the used market, the Model Y is only going to grow in our rankings from here.

#9 — Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage at number 9 has been a fixture in our top 10 for two years running, and for good reason. The fifth-generation Sportage (from 2021) remains one of the most complete family SUVs available used: bold and distinctive styling that still turns heads, a genuinely premium interior with a high-quality dual-screen setup, and a range that includes petrol, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid variants for every kind of driver. Kia's seven-year warranty transfers to subsequent owners on eligible models — a substantial advantage that Carsa buyers clearly recognise.

#8 — Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

The Range Rover Evoque is the most glamorous new entry in our 2025 top 10. Its appearance at number 8 reflects a shift in Carsa buyer appetite towards more aspirational used cars as values have normalised. The current-generation Evoque (from 2018) is a genuinely beautiful small SUV: distinctive sloping roofline, a premium interior with Land Rover's Pivi Pro infotainment, and available in petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid form. It's a car that makes every journey feel like an occasion. Worth checking air suspension on higher-spec versions, but overall one of the most desirable used buys in the £18,000–£30,000 bracket.

#7 — Audi A3

The Audi A3 holds firm at number 7, maintaining its position as the premium hatchback standard-bearer. The current 8Y generation A3 (from 2020) brought Audi's best interior yet — a 10.1-inch touchscreen, Virtual Cockpit digital instruments, and a build quality that genuinely justifies the premium over mainstream hatchbacks. The 35 TFSI and 35 TDI are the volume sellers among our buyers, both well-proven and efficient. The A3 Sportback remains the sweet spot; the S3 and RS3 variants attract serious performance buyers. For anyone wanting a premium used hatchback that holds its value and turns heads, the A3 remains the obvious answer.

#6 — Hyundai Tucson

The Hyundai Tucson makes its debut in our top 10 at number 6, the highest new entry of 2025. The third-generation Tucson (from 2020) took a bold design leap and backed it up with substance: a roomy, well-specified interior, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and large central touchscreen on most variants, and hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains that make it genuinely economical in daily use. PHEV variants offer around 33 miles of pure electric range — ideal for buyers who want SUV practicality with dramatically reduced running costs on shorter commutes. Hyundai's five-year warranty provides additional peace of mind on newer examples.

Volkswagen Golf

🥈 #2
Volkswagen
Golf

Forty-plus years at the top and still second in 2025. Exceptional range, sorted Mk8 builds, and something for every kind of driver.

Tesla Model 3
1
🏆 #1 — Carsa's best-selling car of 2025 ↑ from #5
Tesla
Model 3

History made. The Tesla Model 3 is Carsa's best-selling car of 2025 — the first time an electric car has topped our annual countdown. Real-world range of 220–280 miles, over-the-air updates that improve the car over time, and running costs that make petrol feel expensive. Electric has gone mainstream.

#5 — Audi e-tron

The Audi e-tron — now officially the Q8 e-tron — at number 5 is the headline story of 2025. A large, premium all-electric SUV finishing inside our top five is a landmark moment. The e-tron (from 2019) and the updated Q8 e-tron (from 2023) offer real-world range of 230–300 miles depending on version, a genuinely luxurious interior, and the kind of refined motorway cruising ability that makes long-distance EV travel stress-free. It's an expensive car new but outstanding value used, with three to four-year-old examples offering substantial equipment at prices well below their original list. A battery health check is advisable on pre-2022 models.

#4 — BMW 3 Series

The BMW 3 Series at number 4 is exactly where you'd expect it to be — the definitive compact executive saloon has been in our top 10 every year we've tracked the data. The G20 generation (from 2019) continues to set the benchmark for the segment: the best-balanced ride and handling of any car in its class, outstanding long-distance refinement, and a range of engines from the frugal 318d to the quick 330i and the rapid M340i. The 3 Series Touring estate is increasingly popular with families who don't want to give up driving engagement for practicality. Reliable, rewarding, and excellent on the motorway — it's the default executive car for a reason.

#3 — Mercedes-Benz A Class

The Mercedes-Benz A Class drops from our 2024 number one to number three in 2025 — not because it's become less desirable, but because two cars above it had an exceptional year. The fourth-generation A Class (2018–2025) remains the gateway to Mercedes-Benz ownership for a huge range of UK buyers, combining compact dimensions with a genuinely premium interior, the MBUX infotainment system, and a badge that carries real status. The A 200d diesel and A 200 petrol remain the most popular choices. With production now concluded, clean used examples will become increasingly valuable over the next few years.

#2 — Volkswagen Golf

The Volkswagen Golf at number two is one of the most consistent performers in our history. The Mk8 Golf (from 2019) raised the bar significantly with a more premium interior and a comprehensive technology package. Early software niggles on the earliest builds were addressed through updates and later production runs are excellent. The range is exceptional: from the efficient 1.0 eTSI three-cylinder through the Golf GTI, the all-wheel-drive R, and the eHybrid plug-in variant. Whether you want a practical family hatchback, a performance icon, or a tax-efficient plug-in hybrid, the Golf delivers — and has done for over forty years.

#1 — Tesla Model 3

Carsa's best-selling car of 2025 is the Tesla Model 3 — the first time an electric car has topped our annual countdown. The result reflects a genuine shift in how UK used car buyers think about electric vehicles. The Model 3 offers real-world range of 220–280 miles depending on variant and age, over-the-air software updates that mean a three-year-old car can be more capable than when it left the factory, and running costs that make petrol feel expensive. The refreshed Highland Model 3 is now arriving in the used market, bringing a longer range and a significantly upgraded interior. For buyers who are ready to go electric, the Model 3 remains the most rounded, most compelling, most capable used EV at almost any budget.
