The Defender 110 is the five-door, long-wheelbase version of the modern Land Rover Defender, and the one most families choose. Every used Land Rover Defender 110 at Carsa has passed our mechanical and cosmetic checks and comes with a 90-day warranty. Finance is available on every car, and the representative example on this page shows the current rate.
What it's like to live with
The 110 is big, upright and easy to see out of, with a huge boot and the option of two extra seats in the back. It rides comfortably, is quiet on the motorway and has one of the most distinctive cabins on sale, with exposed fixings and rugged materials that still feel expensive. It is also seriously capable off-road, even if most owners never test that.
Engines and versions to look for
Most used 110s have a six-cylinder diesel with mild-hybrid help, which is smooth and strong for towing. Petrol versions are quicker but thirstier. The plug-in hybrid pairs a petrol engine with a battery that covers a short commute on electric power, and it sits in a lower tax band. Every version is automatic with four-wheel drive.
Which version should I buy?
S trim has the essentials, SE adds bigger wheels and better seats, and HSE is the luxury option. X-Dynamic versions have a darker, sportier look. If you want seven seats, check the individual car, as the third row was an option and is not available on the plug-in hybrid.
What is the difference between a Defender 90, 110 and 130?
The numbers roughly describe length. The 90 is the short three-door version with five seats. The 110 is the five-door, long-wheelbase version that most families buy, with five or seven seats. The 130 is longer still, with three full rows of seats for up to eight people. All share the same engines and cabin.
Is the new Land Rover Defender reliable?
The modern Defender has a better record than older Land Rovers, but it is a complex car and a full service history matters. Software updates, air suspension and the many electronic systems are the areas to check. Buying a car that has been serviced on time, and having a warranty in place, is the sensible approach.
Is the Defender 110 plug-in hybrid worth it?
It is worth it if you can charge at home and most of your trips are short, because you will do much of your driving on electricity and pay less tax. If you tow regularly or cover long distances, the six-cylinder diesel is the better choice. The plug-in hybrid also has five seats only, with no seven-seat option.
