Carsa's Best-Selling Cars of 2024: Our Top 10 Countdown

Every year we look back at the cars our customers chose most — and 2024 gave us a fascinating picture of what UK used car buyers really want. Across all our showrooms, thousands of cars found new homes, and the results tell a clear story: premium hatchbacks are back, electric is going mainstream, and the family SUV is as popular as ever.
Here's our official countdown of Carsa's 10 best-selling cars from January to December 2024 — the models our customers actually chose, ranked from 10 down to number 1.
#10 — Vauxhall Corsa
The Vauxhall Corsa may sit at number 10, but it's one of the most consistently reliable performers in our range. Britain's best-loved affordable hatchback — available in petrol, diesel, and full electric (Corsa-e) guise — appeals to first-time buyers, city commuters, and anyone wanting low running costs in a well-specified, practical small car. The current-generation Corsa (from 2019) is smart, well-equipped, and easy to live with. If you're budget-conscious and want dependable quality, it's hard to argue with the Corsa.
#9 — BMW 1 Series
The BMW 1 Series at number 9 shows just how much appetite there is for premium compact cars among Carsa buyers. The F40 generation (from 2019) moved to a front-wheel-drive platform, which gave it significantly more interior space while keeping that distinctly BMW feel behind the wheel. It's a genuinely grown-up hatchback: a high-quality interior, strong engine line-up including efficient 118i and 120d units, and a badge that holds its value well. A great choice if you want a step up from mainstream hatchbacks without stretching to a full executive car.
#8 — Nissan Qashqai
The car that invented the crossover SUV segment still draws crowds in 2024. Our number 8 for the year, the Nissan Qashqai — specifically the third-generation model from 2021 onwards — offers a comfortable, well-rounded package that suits families and commuters alike. Available with a strong mild-hybrid drivetrain and an e-Power series hybrid system that genuinely cuts fuel costs in town, the latest Qashqai is the most refined the nameplate has ever been. Excellent interior quality, a large boot, and a relaxed driving character make it a natural choice.
#7 — Audi A3
No list of Carsa best-sellers would be complete without the Audi A3, and 2024 was no different. Our number 7 for the year, the A3 is the premium hatchback benchmark — beautifully built, packed with technology, and genuinely satisfying to drive. The current 8Y-generation A3 (from 2020) brought a sharper design and Audi's best infotainment system yet, with a crisp 10.1-inch touchscreen and Virtual Cockpit digital instruments. The 35 TDI diesel and 35 TFSI petrol are the sweet spot of the range for used buyers — strong, efficient, and paired with an excellent S tronic automatic gearbox.
#6 — Kia Sportage
The Kia Sportage at number 6 is a testament to how much the brand's reputation has grown. The fifth-generation Sportage (from 2021) is a genuinely impressive family SUV: bold styling, a spacious and high-quality interior, a comprehensive standard kit list, and available in hybrid and plug-in hybrid forms that make it one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs in its class. Kia's seven-year warranty transfers to subsequent owners on eligible models — a significant peace-of-mind advantage over many rivals. Families looking for value, space, and efficiency found it here in 2024.
#5 — Tesla Model 3
The Tesla Model 3 breaks into our top five at number 5 — a clear sign that used electric cars have fully entered the mainstream among Carsa buyers. The Model 3 remains one of the best all-round used EVs available: a real-world range of 220–280 miles depending on variant and age, outstanding over-the-air software updates that keep older cars current, and one of the most engaging driving experiences in any class. The Long Range is the sweet spot for buyers who regularly cover motorway miles. Running costs are dramatically lower than petrol equivalents, and the Model 3's reputation for reliability continues to hold up well in owner surveys.
#4 — Seat Leon
The Seat Leon at number 4 is perhaps our most pleasing result. It's a car that doesn't always get the credit it deserves — yet our customers clearly know a good thing. Built on the same MQB platform as the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3, the fourth-generation Leon (from 2020) offers all the engineering substance of its siblings at a more accessible price point. It's sharp to drive, well-specified from the standard trim, and available as a practical estate (the ST) that rivals find difficult to match for money. The 1.5 TSI eTSI mild-hybrid is the standout engine in the range for real-world efficiency.
#3 — BMW 3 Series
The BMW 3 Series at number 3 needs no introduction. The definitive compact executive saloon has been the benchmark in its segment for decades, and the G20 generation (from 2019) is the best yet. A superb balance of ride and handling, outstanding long-distance comfort, and a range of powerful, efficient engines — the 320i and 318d are the most popular choices among our buyers — make it a compelling used buy at almost any mileage. Available as a saloon or Touring estate, the 3 Series is the car for buyers who want the whole package: performance, refinement, and prestige.
#2 — Volkswagen Golf
The Volkswagen Golf at number 2 is entirely consistent with its status as the most versatile mainstream car ever built. The Mk8 Golf (from 2019) raised the bar with a significantly more premium interior and an expanded technology offering — though early software issues on very early examples are worth noting (later builds are much more sorted). The range of engines is exceptional: from the efficient 1.0 eTSI three-cylinder to the ferocious Golf R all-wheel-drive flagship. Whether you want a relaxed family hatchback, a sporty GTI, or a zero-drama diesel estate, the Golf has an answer. There's a reason it's been one of the UK's most popular used cars for forty years.
#1 — Mercedes-Benz A Class
Carsa's best-selling car of 2024 is the Mercedes-Benz A Class — and it's not even close. The fourth-generation A Class (2018–2025) struck exactly the right balance of compact dimensions, premium positioning, and accessible pricing in the used market. Our customers chose it in greater numbers than any other model, drawn by its striking MBUX infotainment system, strong engine options (the A 200d diesel and A 220 4MATIC being perennial favourites), and the undeniable appeal of a Mercedes badge in a car that fits easily into everyday life. As a used buy, it offers genuine luxury-brand quality at prices that make premium ownership accessible to a much wider audience.
