It depends on what you need. The Fiesta is the go-to small hatchback — cheap to insure, brilliant to drive and easy to park. The Focus suits family buyers wanting more space without going SUV. The Kuga is the pick if you want a higher driving position and room for child seats, with the plug-in hybrid offering 30+ miles of electric range. All three are well-supported by UK garages.

Fords hold their value reasonably well, though not quite as strongly as some German rivals. The Fiesta has historically been one of the UK's best at retaining value, and now that Ford has stopped making it, used examples are holding up even better. On 2011–2018 Fiestas and Focuses with the PowerShift automatic, test drive in stop-start traffic and feel for any shuddering or hesitation between gears.
